The Dress

This is a stunning, classic and classy dress with beautiful, delicate beadwork and a striking low back. It is surprising light to wear and very comfortable to move around in all day long. This dress has a particularly amazing silhouette, hugging the figure (but not in a clingy way) and flowing out through a train. Several guest commented that it was the nicest wedding dress they had ever seen (although I suppose they would say that to a bride!). I changed into a different dress for the dance floor to avoid the risk of anybody treading on the hem.

I am generally a size 6 or 8 (depending on the brand) and a B cup, but had this dress made with split sizing: Bust 8 Waist 9 Hips 10, and had it altered as well, including gently scooping the neckline to soften it (see details below).

The dress was cleaned at Prestons Dry Cleaners, who came recommended by the boutique I bought the dress from. They did a brilliant job and the dress is spotless. The thread used for the beading has pulled a bit at the bottom of the hem, but this can be completely fixed by bringing the hem up, even just slightly. If you are shorter than me (170cm), it won't be an issue - you'll have a brand new hem anyway.

Alterations

I had my alterations done by a seamstress that works with the boutique I bought the dress from (Sphere Bridal Gallery), and she is incredibly experienced. Her work was flawless. Alteration included:
- having the hem raised (the dress falls to floor so that the toes of your shoes peep out when walking). I am 170cm and wore an 8cm heel, and it was perfect.
- Adding a bustle
- Adding cups so that there was no need for a bra
- Having the straps taken up slightly
- Bringing the waist and hips in very slightly
- Gently scooping out the square neckline. I found the square shape a bit abrupt and wanted to soften it, so had my seamstress curve it out in a way used in some other Jane Hill dresses. You can see this is the photos. I loved it!
